Ludwig, the 18th Earl of E, was a noted inventor and eccentric. He spent his life studying the Mansion and its wide range of phenomena. Many of his inventions still function(
) after The Crash. Penelope, his common-law wife(), helped translate his schemes so the devices could be implemented.
There is a quasi-religious faction in the Basement, the Ludwigites, based on mythologized stories of Ludwig. However, there is some debate among Basement-dwellers over whether he actually existed.
